Aurora – The Album (EMI / Chrystalis)

Its fitting that Aurora should choose to label their current release The Album – because in The Album, Aurora have created one of the finest contemporary releases you will hear not only this year, but in years.

Both singles – Aurora original Dreaming and their cover of Duran Duran’s Ordinary World (this version however, at a slower tempo than the more upbeat chart remix version), are here - loud and proud and sounding better than ever.

The factors that make this album stand apart from the average crowd, however, are numerous. Firstly, The Album is not an opus driven exclusively on the ability of two singles. Check out the dancy vibes of On The Day It Rained Forever, a true dance floor filler, softer specialities such as Your Mistake, Hushbaby and To Die For or the beautifully sung If You Could Read My Mind for proof of that.

The voices, use of instruments and tunes are all expertly put together, and the fact that there’s soft acoustic rock and dance tunes on here, all with enough pop accessibility for the charts yet sure to command plenty of respect from the more critical music listener. The Album? C’est classique.

Verdict - @@@@@
