Scorpions – Live Bites (Universal)

The German rockers recreate some of the best moments in their back catalogue via live album Live Bites.

Oh god, a German rock band a hear you cry – albeit a bloody good one. The Scorpions – starting out in the 70’s and initially the group that first had the services of guitar king Michael Schenker, then went on to take the 80’s by storm with Euro rock anthems such as Rock You Like A Hurricane (sadly, not featuring here).

After chillin’ the World out with epic ballad Wind Of Change in the early 90’s and then getting a few haircuts to mark the new Millennium, The Scorpions are still here. Live Bites shows exactly why – from cheesy soft metal anthems such as Tease Me, Please Me and Rhythm Of Love to smoother softies such as the aforementioned classic Wind Of Change or No Pain No Gain, its undeniably great material.

Meanwhile, the reggae tinged Is Anybody Out There and the Mexican / bluesy flavoured combo of Ave Maria No Morro and Living For Tomorrow bring variety and something extra special to the disc. Overall, a tremendous collection of live renditions taken from Scorpions live shows the World over.

Verdict - @@@@
