Brainstorm - Metus Mortis
The
German Brainstorm is by now a rather old metal band but even though they
have been alive since 1989 their debut cd "Hungry" wasn't released until
1997. Despite this fact they have become a very interesting band with
a personal sound. The new album features a new vocalist, Andy B. Franck,
formerly the frontman of Symphorce, and it is also the first album on
their new label Metal Blade. The addition of Franck on vocals seems to
have been a real good move because the vocals on "Metus Mortis" are some
of the best I've heard in a long while and should make many bands jealous.
The music is not quite as impressive although these guys clearly know
what they are doing. More than ten years of hard work and practice finally
pays off for these German metallers because this is a very good album.
If you like power/heavy metal in the heavier league then this would be
for you. They remind me slightly of Grave Digger and it is no coincidence
that they will be heading out on a European tour together in January 2002.
