Mortiis - The Smell Of Rain
Ever
since he left the Norwegian black metal act Emperor in their early days
Mortiis has been one of the leading acts on the darkwave scene and he
has released lots of albums under different names. The most prominent
of his projects is simply entitled Mortiis and yet again he has been able
to compose a new great piece of dark musical art. This is purely electronic
music that is very similar to modern Samael but with a lot more techno
influences than black metal. What I like most about the British Earache
Records is that they are not as narrow-minded as most other labels are
when signing new bands. Mortiis would never have had a place at a label
like Nuclear Blast or Century Media, at least not as they are working
now. However I'm glad that every label is not working the same way because
there is only one Mortiis in the world and that is enough for me because
he is doing a great job. His lyrics may be out of this world but he is
still the No 1 darkwave artist at the moment and with the help of the
beautiful voice of Sarah Jezebel Devah yet another great album has been
conceived. This is only for the open-minded but it is for you that I am
writing this zine. I would have loved for this album to be more powerful
and symphonic but Mortiis is the boss...
