Kataklysm - Epic (The Poetry Of War)
Nuclear Blast, 2001
7.5/10
Vincent Eldefors

After last year's "The Prophecy" the Canadian hyperblasters in Kataklysm are back with their seventh album release so far. As you might expect the new album is just as brutal and drum dominated as their previous releases but there are also plenty of powerful guitar riffs to be enjoyed. I have never been a huge fan of Kataklysm because their music is often rather monotonous and too raw for its own good but I have to admit that I still like them a lot. Their style of death metal is quite unique in the world and that is probably also the reason why Nuclear Blast has decided to label their music as "Northern Hyperblast". That doesn't give you much information about what it actually sounds like but fans of the band know for sure and if you are into extreme metal of one kind or another you have to have heard of Kataklysm. This may not be their most astonishing release so far but it is still worth purchasing. The fifth track, "Shivers Of A New World", is a great song.

Song listing:

1. Il Diavolo In Me
2. Damnation Is Here
3. Era Of The Mercyless (Roma: Part I)
4. As The Glorious Weep (Roma: Part II)
5. Shivers Of A New World
6. Manipulator Of Souls
7. Wounds
8. What We Endure
9. When Time Stands Still

Playing time: 39.40
