Digger - The Grave Digger
Now
I am beginning to dislike Nuclear Blast for real - yet another promo copy
with faded out songs... It is also a bit strange that a big company like
N.B. can't spell correctly on their promo sheets (Germans and English
is a bad combination)... Enough about that and on to the review: Grave
Digger are one of the few metal bands from the 80's who are still alive
and still doing metal the way it should be done. Germany has always been
the No 1 metal country in the world and it is no coincidence that bands
like Helloween, Gamma Ray, Running Wild and others have risen from this
land because these guys know how to create real music. Grave Digger has
ties with several other top German metal bands and this is the first album
featuring the ex-Rage guitarist Manni Schmidt. The new album is slightly
heavier and perhaps also more mature than previous releases but it is
still fast, melodic and, above all, more metal than most competitors on
the scene. It also contains one of the best songs Grave Digger ever has
composed namely "The House" which is simply amazing! The lyrical concept
is also darker and not as much focused on medieval times as it has been
before. Perhaps they have grown tired of Excalibur and all the knights
and want to try something new. A good choice it seems to me!
Song listing: 1. Son Of Evil 2. The Grave Digger 3. Raven 4. Scythe Of Time 5. Spirits Of The Dead 6. The House 7. King Pest 8. Sacred Fire 9. Funeral Procession 10. Haunted Palace 11. Silence Playing time: 43.22 (with faded versions...) |
